2nd May 2008 - ISO 9001:2000 Certificate Renewal
FAI Automotive plc are pleased to announce that they have passed their rigorous certificate renewal assessment by TUV in April 2008.
Sarah Stratton-Hine, Customer Service Support Manager said; "after the fire we suffered in January, this is a fantastic achievement for FAI. In order to pass the certificate renewal, all our quality systems had to be up to scratch and we have all worked so very hard to achieve these standards, especially Tracy Payne our QMS Management Representative who ensures all our procedures and systems work correctly".
Our QMS Consultant, Tim Horsfield of Setagon Quality Systems said: "it is very creditable that FAI passed their certificate renewal assessment by TUV with no non conformances".
ISO 9001 has become the international reference for quality requirements with certification, the preferred solution for over half a million organisations in 159 countries. The standard was revised in 2000 and replaces the 1994 versions. One of the major strengths of ISO 9001:2000 is its wider appeal for all types of organisations. Its focus on processes and customer satisfaction rather than procedures means it is equally applicable to service providers as manufacturers with greater emphasis on customer satisfaction, process management and measurement, continual improvement with greater top management involvement.
A well done to all our staff and internal auditors from the board of Directors.

Valve Information, Then and Now The technology on early valves relevant to locking the valve cap employed a single collet groove. The method used to locate and lock this type of valve cap, was a light tap with a hammer. This was fine bearing in mind early valves were more robust.
With the advent of the multi-valve engine, basic dimensional ratios dictated the need for slimmer/lighter versions of their predecessors. In the main, all valves utilised in a multi-valve engine will have a triple collet configuration. In essence the triple collet is self locating and locking, negating any necessity for the use of a hammer.
Note: Recent studies reveal that the shock load induced by tapping the head of the later type valves, may result in creating a stress fracture directly below the third collet groove, culminating in a failure within fifteen minutes of initial start up.
Cam Belt Drive Line Kits The life of the cam belt drive train, is only as good as the components in its drive line, and failure of a camshaft drive belt, should the valves and pistons make contact, may prove very expensive.
Premature failure will normally occur when ONLY the cam belt is changed, this being at approximately half the expected mileage as recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. The manufacturer will have, through research, development and endurance testing, have calculated when the change time (mileage) should be.
The size of a support bearing is critical, it is a sealed unit and its life is determined by the quantity of grease injected into the race cavity by the bearing manufacturer. A new vehicle should always run successfully to its first required belt change, at this point consider the grease that is packed into the bearings, as this has a finite life also.
A cam belt kit is far cheaper than rectifying a cylinder head!

FAI CV Boots and Steering Rack Gaiters 2004 This catalogue is all about choice: the choice of the garage to replace CV boots using the method they prefer. The market has changed considerably in the past few years with the appearance of ‘stretch’ boots that fit over the CV joint without removing it from the shaft. Whereas some suppliers have tried to impose this type of solution on the market, at FAI we understand that customers have preferences.
We originally met this demand with our Uni-Stretch boots. We have now expanded this range from two to seven sizes of boot, which cover the majority of outer applications. The catalogue now shows which Uni-Stretch boot fits each application. Where none is shown we do not recommend using a Uni-Stretch boot.
Taking the Uni-Stretch thinking a step further, for those customers who are looking for one boot that will do the majority of these applications we introduced the Customisable Uni-Stretch boot that can be trimmed to size and also features removable internal lips.
