Chaz Takes the Podium After a Tricky Start

Dry and hot was the forecast for Magny Cours, France, for Fridays free-practice session, producing a 40 C track.

With an encouraging 1.37.980 lap time things were looking good, despite the FP2 being cut short due to a warning light on Chaz's dash.

"Overall, day one was OK...Unfortunately, we got cut short a little bit towards the end of FP2 by a warning on the dashboard...Last year we had a couple of awesome races here, both of which were really fun though in very different conditions, so we'll try to do our best and put up another good fight with our rivals"

Race 1

Chaz started in his usual blistering style and broke in to second place within just a few corners, however the wet track wasn't the biggest hurdle for the Welshman.

An electrical fault hindered Chaz for most of the race resulting in his position sliding to a tenth place finish.

"We had a strong start and the bike felt good at the beginning of the race, but after three laps it had an issue and it became hard to control. It started to lock the rear and spin a lot under acceleration. We'll look into it, but all we could do was to try and make it to the checkered flag, so I'm a bit disappointed...hopefully we can bounce back with a solid result in Race 2"

Race 2

Chaz was the only rider capable of lapping the damp track around the 1.38 mark, resulting in a 5 second lead by half way. Despite intermittent rain, Davies made the rest of the race seem effortless until the checkered flag, securing his 27th career win.

"Yesterday was bitter, but today was sweet... I woke up feeling really motivated and I think it showed in the opening laps, as I was making passes and got to the front pretty quickly from 11th position. It wasn't an easy race though. The rain was on and off throughout, and it was hard to tell where the wet patches could be...Now we're looking forward to the last two races, the hunt for second position in the championship is still open and we can be fast both in Jerez and Qatar"

The pressure is on for Chaz with only 9 points between 3rd and 2nd place. The next date for the diary is below.

Round 12: Circuito de Jerez, Spain. 20 - 22 October 2017
